Largest grid in Porsche Sprint Challenge Central Europe ever at Tor Poznań.
Record numbers at Round 4 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Central Europe: The race weekend at Tor Poznań saw the largest grid in PSCCE history since 2021, with a total of 18 cars taking to the track. Many new Polish drivers from WSMP, the Polish racing championship, enjoyed participating in the series as guest drivers.
After two days of testing, race day on Saturday greeted all teams, drivers, guests and fans with nice summer weather, a lot of sunshine and maximum temperatures of 28 degrees. So, the atmosphere in the paddock and around the whole track was great, supported by the good cooperation with Porsche Poland, who held their Experience event at Tor Poznań.
The local Polish drivers already dominated qualifying. Fabian Dybionka claimed pole position for Race 1, while his fellow countryman Tomasz Magdziarz did so for race 2. Tobias Poschik from Austria and Egidijus Gražys from Lithuania completed the Top 3 in Qualifying 1, while in the second session it was a complete Polish Top 3 with Dybionka and David Dziwok lining up in P2 and P3. Fastest in the AM category was Peter Brunner from Switzerland twice, while the Masters class was led by Amuno Pelette from Poland.
In the first Sprint Race, Fabian Dybionka used his pole position perfectly: He never lost the lead and crossed the finish line ahead of Tobias Poschik from Austria and Tomasz Magdziarz. Winner of the AM category was Peter Brunner from Switzerland ahead of Czech driver Petr Brecka, while the Masters class victory went to Amuno Pelette from Poland. His fellow countryman Jakub Chmiel had not the best of his races, as he was involved in two collisions, for which he received a total of 15 seconds penalty and dropped back from P9 to P14 in the overall classification.
The second Sprint Race then saw a Polish triple: Even a five-second penalty for a start procedure infringement could not stop Fabian Dybionka from claiming his second victory of the day ahead of pole-sitter Tomasz Magdziarz and Jan Antoszewski. Fourth-placed David Dziwok before the final race weekend at Brno in September now leads the Sprint championship with 95 points, five ahead of Poschik. Winner of the AM category was Ramunas Grigaitis from Lithuania after a very close fight with Peter Brunner, current championship class leader, over the whole distance. In the Masters class Günter Benninger from Austria crossed the finish line in first place, but later was handed a five-second penalty for overtaking Piktys Audrius under yellow flag after a spin of Arthur Paziewski, so the win went to the Lithuanian who had finished just behind Benninger.
The final victory of the day then also went to Poland: With just two laps to go in the Endurance Race, the “100 Miles of Poland”, David Dziwok after a great chase from P4 in the second half took the lead from Henrikas Klepikas and secured the top spot on the podium for himself and Tomasz Lach. The Lithuanian duo of Eduardas and Henrikas Klepikas, father and son, finished in P2 ahead of their fellow countrymen Marius Bartkus and Mantas Janavicius, who closed up in the overall Endurance championship, as leaders.
Victory in the AM class went to Petr Brecka, current AM leader of the Endurance championship, who had quite a long fight with Peter Brunner, until the Swiss spun on lap 35, dropping back to P3 in class. But Brunner at least made it back to P2, overtaking Filip Zagórski on the last lap. The Masters category also saw Polish winners with Grzegorz Grzybowski and Tomasz Myszkier ahead of Günter Benninger.
